shop, but the armed citizen emerged unscathed. One of the would-be
thieves was not so lucky. It all happened when five men, some of
them armed, entered Columbus Park Sundries and attempted to take
money from the cash register. The clerk grabbed his own gun and shot
at the suspects, who promptly vacated the premises. A short while
later, a man who police believe to be one of the suspects appeared
at a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound to his back. It was the
second time in four years a Columbus Park employee had been forced
to shoot a bandit.
