Alexander Childs, 10, was tending his chores on a fishery
managed by his father near Kamay, Tex., when set upon by a pair of
125-lb. Doberman pinschers. As the dogs mauled him and knocked him
into a ditch, the boy's screams alerted his father who brought a
rifle from the house and felled the animals with a single shot each.
Local authorities credited Childs' action with saving his son's
