Only the NRA has the credibility and strength to advance hunting and defend hunters’ rights nationwide!

We’ve long led the charge to protect our hunting heritage against attack:

-SPEARHEADED hunter education in 1949 and today is the only organization to offer a state-of-the-art, free, online hunter education course

-EXPANDS & PROTECTS our hunting rights with representatives in Washington, D.C. and every state in the nation.

-DEFENDS against anti-hunting ballot initiatives designed to erode hunting and destroy our heritage

-LEADS Right to Hunt and Fish constitutional amendments in the states to protect hunting for future generations

-GRADES elected officials on their support for hunting and the Second Amendment so voters know which officials stand with them and their rights

-FIGHTS anti-hunting laws and regulations by challenging them in court

-PUBLISHES the most popular hunting magazine in the U.S.

What We Fight For...

The NRA supports Right to Hunt and Fish state constitutional amendments.

NRA-ILA believes Americans have the right to engage with our natural environment through hunting and fishing. We NRA has spearheaded the campaign for RTHF amendments, currently adopted in 19 states, in order to help protect America’s rich outdoor heritage from well-funded efforts by national animal extremist groups to get hunting banned. These Amendments provide meaningful and permanent protections for sportsmen and science-driven wildlife management

The NRA supports the right to use suppressors while hunting.

NRA-ILA recognizes the legitimate benefits of using suppressors while hunting that some Americans enjoy- such as hearing protection and recoil reduction. We oppose any legislation that seeks to further restrict the use of suppressors and continue to fight for the passage of the Hearing Protection Act- now included in the Sportsmen’s Heritage and Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Act

The NRA opposes bans on Sunday hunting.

Other outdoor activities are allowed on Sunday, including those that take place on public and private property, such as fishing, hiking and golf. Restrictions on Sunday hunting effectively treat hunters as second-class citizens and tacitly endorse the view of animal extremists that there is something wrong with hunting. Such a view ignores the fact that hunting is part of America’s heritage and hunters contribute billions of dollars to wildlife and conservation programs, through license fees and revenues generated through purchases of firearms, ammunition and archery equipment.

The NRA supports Public Access to Private Land Hunting Programs

Finding a place to hunt is one of the biggest challenges hunters face today, and NRA-ILA is actively working on multiple fronts to promote solutions to this growing problem. Each state can help by adopting a program to increase public access to private land. Twenty-six states have public access programs, which provide modest payments to landowners who open up their lands to sportsmen. NRA-ILA will continue to promote these programs at the state and federal level.

The NRA opposes banning lawfully owned Ivory in the U.S.

While the NRA supports efforts to stop poaching and the illegal trade of ivory, banning lawfully owned Ivory would do nothing to protect elephants in Africa and Asia, but would instead make sellers of legal ivory potential criminals overnight, as well as destroy the value of property held by countless gun owners, art collectors, musicians and others. Furthermore, the NRA recognizes the fact that hunters are part of the solution to the ivory trade, as hunting revenue greatly contributes to anti-poaching programs, and should not be treated like part of the problem.

NRA-ILA is the legislative branch of the National Rifle Association. Since our establishment in 1975, we have consistently fought for conservation, firearm safety, and hunter's rights. Thanks to our committed staff and a wide base of support, we have successfully blocked countless pieces of legislation that would have greatly limited our Second Amendment Rights.
