California: Pleasant Hill City Council to Vote on Stringent Local Requirements on Firearm Sales TONIGHT

Monday, November 4, 2013

After hours of public comment and twice postponing their vote, the Pleasant Hill City Council is finally poised to vote on a set of local laws governing the sale of firearms at TONIGHT’s city council meeting.  The proposed ordinance would require all firearm retailers to obtain a police-issued permit from the City of Pleasant Hill and comply with various burdensome requirements in order to lawfully sell firearms and ammunition in the city.  For a detailed explanation of what this ordinance would do if enacted, please click here.

If passed, this onerous ordinance would do nothing to reduce violent crime in Pleasant Hill.  Criminals intent on misusing firearms and committing crimes will find a way to obtain firearms – usually through theft or illegal transfers.  Firearms dealers are not the problem.  Indeed, Pleasant Hill Police Chief Moore has stated publicly that “his department has not had any problems with the four firearms dealers in Pleasant Hill.”

This law’s effect would instead be to make it extremely costly (if not impossible) for firearm businesses to obtain the required local permit, driving legitimate businesses out of Pleasant Hill altogether and, ultimately, burdening your right to obtain a firearm.

Please call AND e-mail City Council members NOW urging them to OPPOSE this unnecessary anti-gun ordinance!  The City Council can be reached at (925) 671-5267 and http://www.ci.pleasant-hill.ca.us/forms.aspx?FID=74.

You can also express your opposition by attending and standing in solidarity with other gun rights supporters at tonight’s city council meeting.  This meeting begins promptly at 7:30 pm in the Council Chambers of the Pleasant Hill City Hall located at 100 Gregory Lane in Pleasant Hill.
