Oklahoma: Pro-Gun Bills on the Move

Last week, pro-gun bills were on the move in the Oklahoma Legislature. HB 2960, providing liability protection for firearm industry members, and HB 2937, expanding carry to include water vessels, passed committee and are eligible for a vote on the house floor. Additionally, SB 1258 was passed on the Senate floor and has been transmitted to the House for further consideration.

Bills Pending in the House:

HB 2960 provides liability protections to firearm industry members for third-party misuse of their products. Eligible for a vote on the House floor.

HB 2937 expands carry protections to include watercraft. Eligible for a vote on the House floor.

HB 3094 expands carry to include the State Capitol Building. Failed to advance from the House Judiciary Committee on a 4-5 vote.

HB 3301 ensures that any weapon lawfully owned under federal law or excluded from the National Firearms Act remains legal within the state. Passed House Criminal Judiciary on a 5-1 vote, referred to House Judiciary and Public Oversight Committee.

HB 3312 expands firearm safety education opportunities for public, charter, and virtual schools. Passed the House Common Education Committee on a 9-2 vote, referred to House Education Oversight Committee.

HB 4125 creates a clear restoration of rights procedure under state law. Passed House Civil Judiciary Committee on an 8-0 vote, referred to House Judiciary and Public Oversight Committee.

SB 1258 expands carry protections to include water vessels. Passed Senate and awaits a committee assignment in the House.

Bills Pending in the Senate:

SB 1278 designates July as a sales tax-exempt period for rifles, shotguns, or pistols. Pending a policy hearing in the Senate Revenue and Taxation Committee.

SB 1512 expands carry opportunities to include government properties and vehicles. Pending a committee assignment in the Senate Rules Committee.

SB 2094 prohibits the destruction of seized firearms, requiring the sale to be conducted through a licensed firearms dealer. Pending a policy hearing in the Senate Public Safety Committee.

SB 2096 creates a clear restoration of rights procedure under state law. Pending a policy hearing in the Senate Public Safety Committee.
