New Hampshire: House Committee to Consider Multiple Gun Bills

On Wednesday, January 14, the New Hampshire House Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety will be considering a collection of gun bills. The majority of those bills expand and enhance the Second Amendment rights of New Hampshire residents. There are, however, two bills on the docket that have been introduced by Democratic members that the Committee should reject, including H.B. 1642, an act that would establish Extreme Risk Protection Orders (Red Flag Laws), and H.B. 1387 which would repeal liability protections for firearms manufacturers. Please contact members of the House Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety and ask them to oppose H.B. 1642 and H.B. 1387 and support all pro-gun measures being considered by the Committee.

Anti-Gun Bills in Committee: 

H.B. 1642 establishes Extreme Risk Protection Orders, otherwise known as Red Flag laws, in New Hampshire. These laws are ripe for abuse, provide limited due process protections, and put law enforcement officers in unnecessarily dangerous situations.

H.B. 1387 repeals New Hampshire’s companion law to the Federal Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, a measure that shields both manufacturers and dealers from frivolous lawsuits designed to put the firearms industry out of business.

Some of the Pro-Gun Measures include: 

H.B. 1365 increases privacy protections for applicants for carry permits by eliminating the requirement to list the applicant’s employer and employment status along with the elimination of the requirement to provide character references on applications.

H.B. 1793 guarantees the rights of college students to protect themselves on campuses with both firearms and other defensive weapons including pepper spray, mace and stun guns.

Contact members of the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee and ask them to oppose H.B. 1642 and H.B. 1387, and support all of the measures before the committee that protect and expand the right to keep and bear arms.
