Minnesota: Numerous Anti-Gun Bills Introduced

Anti-Second Amendment lawmakers wasted no time in introducing numerous bills for the 2023 legislative session.  NRA-ILA is closely following about 100, both pro-2A and anti-2A, pieces of legislation. SF 1723 is one of the most egregious bills and infringes upon the Second Amendment in many ways. SF 1723 has yet to be scheduled for a hearing in the Senate Judiciary and Public Safety Committee.

Some of the attacks on law-abiding citizens that SF 1723 imposes are:

1. Sets up a database of firearm registrations and transfers

2. Bans carrying firearms in state and local public buildings

3. Sets up unreasonable firearm storage requirements

4. Unreasonably redefines and expands what is considered a “semiautomatic military-style assault weapon”

5. Requires liability insurance for individuals with a carry permit and individuals who own a firearm

6. Requires a license issued by the commission of public safety to own or possess a firearm

7. Sets up unreasonable firearm transfer requirements

8. Limits the number of firearms that can be purchased within a 30-day period

9. Bans open carry of firearms

10. Criminalizes failure to report a list of stolen firearms

11. Removes carry permit reciprocity for residents of other states

12.  Bans “large capacity magazines” and so-called “assault rifles

13. Bans so-called “ghost guns” and more…

The four anti-gun bills NRA-ILA previously reported on, HF 396, HF 14, HF 15, and HF 601, are in the House Ways and Means Committee awaiting action. The "red flag" proposal, universal background checks, criminalizing the failure to report a lost or stolen firearm, and unreasonable firearm and ammunition storage requirements would place further burdens on law-abiding gun owners and sportsmen while doing nothing to address violent criminals!
