Tennessee: Park Carry Legislation Heads to House and Senate Floors, Your Help Needed

Next week, Senate Bill 1171 and its companion bill, House Bill 995, will be voted on the floor of their chambers of origin.  These important pro-gun bills need your help.  It is critical that you contact your state legislators immediately and urge them to support SB 1171 and HB 995.

SB 1171, sponsored by state Senator John Stevens (R-24), and HB 995, sponsored by state Representative Mike Harrison (R-09) and Representative Tilman Goins (R-10), are heading to the Senate and House floors for a vote next week.  This legislation would allow a person with a handgun carry permit to carry a firearm in any state, county, or municipal park, or other recreation area and would remove provisions allowing local governments to prohibit carrying in parks by resolution or ordinance.  The current law allows for a patchwork of firearm regulations throughout the state where a law-abiding Tennessean with a valid Handgun Carry Permit may unknowingly and unintentionally break the law.

Please contact your state Senator TODAY, and urge him or her to SUPPORT Senate Bill 1171.  Also, please contact your state Representative TODAY, and urge him or her to SUPPORT House Bill 995.
