This week, Senate Bill 433 was passed by the Indiana Senate and now heads to the House. SB 433, sponsored by state Senator Jim Tomes (R-49), would repeal the section of the Indiana statute that prohibits the possession, sale, receipt, or use of short barreled shotguns. These firearms are legal under federal law and regulated by the National Firearms Act of 1934. SB 433 would bring Indiana in line with federal law.
Further, Senate Joint Resolution 2, which would guarantee Hoosiers the right to hunt, fish and harvest wildlife and ensure the preservation of Indiana's rich hunting heritage, was also passed by the Senate and is heading to the House. This proposed constitutional amendment would ensure that sportsmen will continue to be used as the state’s responsible game managers. Sponsored by state Senator Brent Steele (R-44), SJR 2 (formerly SJR9) was passed by both legislative chambers in 2014 and is required to be passed again to qualify for the 2016 General Election ballot.
