New Hampshire: Senate Judiciary Committee to Vote On Permitless Carry Legislation as Soon as Tomorrow

Last Thursday, January 29, Senate Bill 116 received widespread and overwhelming support during a well-attended public hearing.  Sponsored by Senator Jeb Bradley (R-3), SB 116 addresses several key Second Amendment issues including:

  • Repealing the existing law that requires a person to have a concealed firearm license in order to carry concealed.
  • Increasing the length of time a license to carry is valid.
  • Directing the state police to enter into reciprocity agreements with other states to recognize their carry licenses.

While SB 116 would repeal the requirement to obtain a concealed firearm license in order to carry concealed, the current carry permitting system will be left intact for those who wish to participate in reciprocal concealed carry permit agreements when traveling to other states.

In New Hampshire, existing state law recognizes the right of any citizen who can legally own/possess a firearm to carry it openly, either loaded or unloaded, anywhere in the state.  Since law-abiding citizens can carry a firearm openly without a permit, they should not become criminals just because they put on a jacket or place their firearm in their purse or briefcase.  Law-abiding citizens do not suddenly turn into violent criminals just because they choose to conceal their firearm.

It is critical that you use the contact information provided below to call AND email members of the Senate Judiciary Committee TODAY and ask for their SUPPORT for SB 116.
