Virginia: Loudoun County Board of Supervisors to Consider Pro-Gun Ordinance on March 6

Wednesday, February 27, 2013

The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors held a public hearing on February 13, to discuss a proposed pro-gun amendment to Chapter 684 of the county’s Codified Ordinances, Weapons and Explosives, which regulates the lawful use and discharge of firearms within the unincorporated areas of Loudoun County.  Click here to view the meeting agenda.

Currently, the discharge of firearms is prohibited, except for certain hunting activities, in several parts of Loudoun County.  This amendment to Chapter 684.03 would expand areas where the shooting of sporting clays is allowed in the county by updating current law to protect the outdoor shooting of sporting clays in addition to hunting activities that are already protected.  The proposed subsection reads: “Nothing herein shall prohibit the outdoor shooting of sporting clays, subject to other applicable laws and regulations.”

This amendment is essential for the protection of sportsmen in Loudon County and will be considered at the March 6 Board of Supervisors’ Business Meeting.  Stay tuned to www.nraila.org as more details about the meeting agenda become available.

In the meantime, please contact County Board Chairman Scott York and your county Supervisor (based on your district) and ask them to support the proposed amendment to Chapter 684 that would protect your right to participate in sporting clays shooting in Loudoun County.  Contact information for Chairman York and your county Supervisor is provided at the links below:
