Please Contact NRA Today if You’ve Been Affected!
An email alert was sent out last week notifying you that the Louisiana Senate Committee on Transportation, Highways & Public Works is scheduled to hold a hearing this Thursday, April 24, to hear arguments over Senate Bill 51.
SB 51, sponsored by State Senator Joe McPherson (D-Woodworth), would clarify that current state law allowing Louisianans the right to protect themselves and to possess lawfully owned firearms in their private motor vehicles would supercede policies adopted by business owners or employers prohibiting the transportation or storage of guns in locked cars and trucks parked in their parking lots. Similar legislation has already passed in Mississippi, Georgia and Florida, and now your help is needed to pass it in Louisiana!
If you have been affected by a corporate policy that prevents you from protecting yourself on your way to and from work, and you are available to testify before the committee on Thursday morning, please email NRA-ILA Louisiana State Liaison Tara Mica as soon as possible at [email protected]. We are looking for key impact witnesses such as individuals who commute long distances or who work for a company whose policy has changed recently (from one of accommodation to one banning firearms in locked motor vehicles - or vice versa.)
The Senate Committee on Transportation, Highways & Public Works will post their hearing location and time on their website. Please click here to check for updates. Also, please continue checking your email and www.NRAILA.org for updates on this important pro-gun bill.
