The ill-considered rush to praise "Arming America: The Origins of a National Gun Culture," by Michael Bellesiles at its publication has backfired badly on the academic and activist communities. Had historians and policy advocates kept their ideological biases in check long enough to consider the facts, the embarrassment could have been avoided.
