A state appeals court has overturned a South Miami ordinance that made it illegal to own a firearm without a trigger lock in a home with children. The ruling calls into question an almost identical Miami-Dade County ordinance that was approved soon after South Miami`s ordinance. Ruling in favor of a lawsuit filed by South Miami resident W. David Tucker and the National Rifle Association, the Third District Court of Appeal said the ordinance is in conflict with a 2000 state law that gives the Legislature authority over gun regulation.
