Nashville, Tenn., resident Bruce Metcalf was buying gasoline
at a local market when he witnessed two armed robbers holding up the
store. Realizing they'd been seen, the pair burst outside and opened
fire on Metcalf. But Metcalf drew his own gun, returned fire, and
killed one, a fugitive prison escapee. The other robber fled.
Established in 1975, the Institute for Legislative Action (ILA) is the "lobbying" arm of the National Rifle Association of America.
