When Ferrill LaRue, husband of the operator of a Los
Angeles, Calif., rest home, heard the screams of one of the aged
lady guests, he got his .30-30 rifle and rushed downstairs in time
to see a prowler coming out of her room. The intruder struggled with
LaRue for the rifle. Mrs. LaRue, hearing the commotion, grabbed her
cal. .32 pistol and came on the scene as her husband struggled with
the intruder. She called on the man to stop, and when he didn't
Mrs. LaRue fired once, the bullet piercing both the man's cheeks.
When police arrived, one of the aged residents was found to have
been beaten severely and her room ransacked.
