Move Over Maxim; American Rifleman is In: NRA's Flagship Magazine Enters Nation's Top 25

Friday, February 7, 2014

As reported this week by Advertising Age, American Rifleman--NRA's flagship magazine, and one of three magazines that members have an option of receiving as part of their membership--posted a 29.3% boost in circulation in the second half of last year. That leap, to an average circulation of 2.2 million from 1.7 million, was enough to propel American Rifleman past Maxim magazine into America's top 25 magazines by circulation.

American Rifleman is the largest circulation firearms magazine in the world, and has been in business as a magazine since 1885--making it the world's oldest firearm magazine as well.  American Rifleman features stories of interest to gun enthusiasts of every kind--from competitive shooters and hunters to reloaders and gun collectors--and the magazine also delivers impartial reviews of rifles, shotguns, handguns and shooting equipment, technical analysis and expert advice, state and federal legislative updates, and regional reports on local events and facilities.

As the Ad Age article notes, the surge for American Rifleman reflects NRA's success in adding new members over the last year.  "Last year we had a 25% growth in membership," said NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam.  "People who sign up for membership get their choice of one of three official journals for the NRA.  American Rifleman is one of the more popular journals that we have."

The two other magazine options available with regular membership are:  American Hunter, the most popular--and largest circulation--all-hunting magazine in the world; and America's First Freedom, NRA's pure news magazine that delivers timely, hard-hitting journalism and tells the truth about the threats to our Second Amendment rights.
