Minnesota: 2014 Legislative Session is Underway

Friday, February 28, 2014

The 2014 session of the 88th Minnesota Legislature convened this Tuesday.  As state legislation is introduced, your NRA-ILA is working to advance recognition and restoration of your firearms freedoms as well as to ensure the defeat of all legislation that would infringe on your Second Amendment rights.  It is important that you remain engaged and vigilant this session, as the attacks on your right to keep and bear arms will persist.  Last session, anti-gun groups and state legislators aggressively pursued harmful legislation, including criminalizing private transfers of firearms between law-abiding citizens, through grossly mislabeled “universal" background check legislation.  NRA-ILA will keep you updated as legislation is introduced and considered in the legislative process.

At this time, House File 2007, authored by state Representatives Dan Fabian (R-1A), David Dill (DFL-3A), Jim Newberger (R-15B) and its companion Senate File 2025, by Senator LeRoy Stumpf (DFL-1), have been introduced.  These bills would amend the Minnesota Personal Protection Act to recognize the North Dakota permit to carry as valid in Minnesota to establish reciprocity between the two states.  These priority bills need your support!  HF 2007 has been assigned to the House Public Safety, Finance and Policy Committee, and SF 2025 has been assigned to the Senate Judiciary Committee but neither have been assigned a hearing date yet.  Please contact members of these committees and respectfully urge their support for this important reform.

Contact information for members of the House Public Safety, Finance and Policy Committee can be found here.

Contact information for members of the Senate Judiciary Committee can be found here.

We will continue to keep you informed on this legislation as well as other measures that impact your Second Amendment rights this year.  As always, please continue to check your e-mail and www.nraila.org for further updates.
