Hawaii: Multiple Gun-Related Bills to be Heard in state Senate Committee Tomorrow

Monday, February 3, 2014

Tomorrow, February 4, the Hawaii Senate Public Safety, Intergovernmental and Military Affairs Committee is scheduled to hear three different pieces of firearms legislation, including:

  • Senate Bill 2050, sponsored by state Senator Les Ihara, Jr. (D-10), would carve out an exception for owners of previously registered firearms in Hawaii.  SB 2050 will exempt previously registered owners from being subject to the existing permit waiting period when seeking a permit to allow for the acquisition of another firearm.
  • Senate Bill 2938, sponsored by state Senator Will Espero (D-19), would require each county to establish an online firearms registration process to be fully implemented by July 1, 2015.  This will help streamline the process by limiting the number of trips to comply with current registration requirements.
  • Senate Bill 2257, sponsored by state Senator Clayton Hee (D-23), would completely prohibit the manufacturing, use, and sale of digitally manufactured firearms, firearms accessories and ammunition.

It is important that you contact members of the Senate Public Safety, Intergovernmental and Military Affairs Committee and respectfully urge them to SUPPORT Senate Bills 2050 and 2938, and to OPPOSE Senate Bill 2257.  Contact information for committee members is provided below:
