Tonight, the Tama City Council is scheduled to meet and vote on a proposed ordinance that would effectively ban individuals from carrying a firearm in any municipal building, despite the fact that this would violate the state firearms preemption law which prohibits a locality from enacting an ordinance regulating the otherwise lawful ownership, possession and transportation of a firearm.
Specifically, this proposed ordinance aims to prohibit nearly everyone from carrying, possessing or displaying any weapon or firearm within any municipal building. This means that lawful concealed carry license holders will not be permitted to exercise their Second Amendment rights in any municipal building in Tama.
Please contact the Mayor and members of the Tama City Council to express your OPPOSITION to this misguided proposal. Contact information for the Mayor and City Council members can be found here.
