Pennsylvania: Firearms Preemption Bill Passes Today in House but Now in Danger in Senate Judiciary Committee

Monday, October 6, 2014

Your immediate help needed to ensure that HB 1243 passes favorably in the Senate Judiciary Committee without inclusion of any anti-gun amendments

Today, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed House Bill 1243 by a 143 to 54 vote.  HB 1243 has been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee, however, your NRA has just learned that attempts may be made tomorrow to amend a ban on pigeon shoots into this legislation, as well as the possible inclusion of other anti-gun amendments.  If these anti-gun amendments are adopted, they will kill the bill, and with it, any attempt to pass and enact meaningful and necessary firearms preemption legislation this year.

HB 1243, as passed in the House, would strengthen Pennsylvania’s firearm preemption laws to provide consistency in the firearm and ammunition laws throughout the state.  Over the past four years, the Pennsylvania Legislature has failed to act on this important pro-gun reform, and to date, nearly fifty municipalities have enacted illegal local gun control ordinances, including Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Lancaster, Reading and the state capital of Harrisburg.

Using the contact information provided below, please call and e-mail members of the Senate Judiciary Committee TODAY and urge them to report a clean bill favorably out of committee.  Urge them to support HB 1243 as passed by the House, without the inclusion of any anti-gun amendments.

Please also contact your state Senator today in support of HB 1243.  Your help could make the difference in ensuring this important legislation is passed and enacted into law this year. They’re asking for your help on Election Day, now it’s time for them to help gun owners.  After four years, it’s time for the Pennsylvania Legislature to finally pass this critical legislation, without playing games with your Second Amendment rights.
