Wisconsin: Bill to Allow Interstate Long Gun Sales Passes Assembly, Goes to Senate Committee

Today, in a strong display of support, the Wisconsin Assembly passed Assembly Bill 368 by an overwhelming 94-3 vote.  AB 368, sponsored by state Representative John Spiros (R-86), would align Wisconsin with forty other states that already allow their residents to purchase rifles and shotguns in non-contiguous states, provided that the purchase or transfer complies with state and federal law.  Currently, Wisconsin residents can only purchase long guns in bordering states.  AB 368 would repeal this arbitrary restriction and allow residents the freedom to purchase long guns in states beyond their immediate borders.

AB 368 now goes to the state Senate where it is expected to be assigned to the Committee on Transportation, Public Safety, and Veterans and Military Affairs for consideration.    This committee has already been assigned Senate Bill 285, introduced by state Senator Tom Tiffany (R-12),  that mirrors AB 368's language.  Please contact members of the Senate Committee on Transportation, Public Safety, and Veterans and Military Affairs to ask them to support AB 368 and SB 285.
