Southwest Florida Water Management District Evaluating Hunting and Other Recreation

Monday, September 23, 2013

The Southwest Florida Water Management District will be holding a series of meetings to discuss the District’s management of recreation activities, including hunting, on approximately 225,000 acres of land under its jurisdiction.

Recreation Evaluation 2013 is being conducted by a Recreation Ad Hoc Committee which was appointed to determine whether the District’s recreation program is in line with current recreation trends within its 16-county region.  Following its evaluation, the Committee will make recommendations to the District’s Governing Board.

The Committee divided the District into four recreation planning regions:  Northern, Tampa Bay, Heartland and Southern.  The Recreation Evaluation for each planning region will be presented at each of the four public information meetings.   The meetings will provide the public with an opportunity to review the results and provide input.  Comment forms and a recreation survey will be available at the meetings.

Hunters who want to see opportunities for hunting expanded on lands managed by the District are encouraged to attend one of the public meetings and submit comments to the District.  Comments can be submitted online at the District’s website:  http://www.swfwmd.state.fl.us.

Each of these meetings will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
