On Tuesday, August 20, the Advisory Committee on Capitol Security will meet from 10:00 am to 11:30 am in Room 15 of the State Capitol, located at 75 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in St. Paul. The purpose of this Committee is to discuss and consider changes to current standards regulating firearms on the State Capitol complex. The outcome of this meeting will determine whether or not this Committee will recommend to the state Legislature a policy change, which would be a solution in search of a problem.
Please attend this meeting and oppose these changes to current law that would ban permit holder concealed carry of firearms for self-defense in the State Capitol. It is imperative that pro-freedom supporters voice opposition to this unnecessary change that will do nothing to stop or reduce violent crime, and will only inconvenience, endanger and punish law-abiding gun owners. Public testimony will be heard, but time will be limited at this committee meeting, so please keep your comments brief. If you wish to testify, please submit your name in writing to [email protected]. You may also submit written testimony or comments by 4:00 pm on Monday, August 19, to [email protected]. Written testimony provided after that deadline will still be considered by committee members, but not in advance of this meeting on August 20.
Please plan to arrive at least an hour before this meeting. Remember, with a permit, concealed carry is lawful in the State Capitol and other state buildings in the area if you have notified the Commissioner of Public Safety of your intent to do so in advance.
