Minnesota: Advisory Committee Hears Public Testimony Addressing Permit-Holder Carry in the State Capitol

Today, the Advisory Committee on Capitol Area Security, chaired by Lieutenant Governor Yvonne Prettner Solon, discussed changes to current standards regulating firearms on the State Capitol complex.  Public testimony was heard from those on both sides of the issue, and a strong pro-gun presence was in attendance to defend your inherent right to self-defense.

At this time, this committee has not determined whether to recommend to the state Legislature a policy change, and has left the matter open for further consideration.  This committee will continue to take written public comment.  You are encouraged to submit your written testimony for consideration by this committee to [email protected].

The carrying of firearms for self-defense by law-abiding permit holders is not a threat to security at the state Capitol.  It is an affront to law-abiding Minnesotans to insinuate that permit holders are dangerous criminals who should be feared while on Capitol grounds.  Minnesota gun owners should not have to choose between their own security and participation in the legislative process.

Thank you to all Second Amendment supporters who voiced opposition to this ineffective policy change that will do nothing to stop or reduce violent crime, and will only intimidate, endanger and punish law-abiding gun owners.
