Yesterday, the Dubuque City Council voted 6-1 to table a discriminatory city zoning ordinance amendment that targets law-abiding gun owners and attacks firearm sales in residential areas by Federal Firearms License (FFL) dealers. The lone vote of opposition to tabling this measure was cast by At-Large Councilman David Resnick.
If passed and enacted, this ordinance would prohibit firearm sales by home-based FFL dealers in residential areas, despite the fact that there have been no known problems with existing home-based FFL dealers in the area. This issue was previously reported by the NRA-ILA.
The City Council decided to hold a work session to discuss this matter further, however, a date for it has not been announced at this time. Thank you to the six members of the City Council who voted to table this measure, as it is a step in the right direction for Dubuque.
Also, thank you to all NRA members and Second Amendment supporters who contacted Mayor Roy Buol and members of the Dubuque City Council in opposition to this misguided proposal. The decision to temporarily table this measure would not have happened without your input.
