Today, the Missouri Senate concurred on Senate Bill 75 by a 24-5 vote. This critical right-to-carry reform now heads to Governor Jay Nixon (D) for his consideration.
Sponsored by state Senator Dan Brown and state Representative Eric Burlison, SB 75 seeks to reform Missouri’s existing concealed carry permit process. Currently, the Missouri Department of Revenue (DOR) is responsible for issuing concealed carry endorsements, but after recently betraying the trust of the people of Missouri, state legislators demanded the permitting process be transferred to county sheriffs. If signed into law by Governor Nixon, SB 75 would make sheriffs the issuing authority for all concealed carry permits in Missouri starting on January 1, 2014. In addition to this critical right-to-carry reform, SB 75 would also allow schools to annually teach the NRA Eddie Eagle Gunsafe® Program to help keep children safe.
