Governor Vetoes Common Sense Pro-Gun Bill in Montana

Monday, April 15, 2013

Urge Him to Sign Other Pro-Gun Bills into Law

Despite grassroots lobbying from you and fellow gun owners, Governor Steve Bullock (D) vetoed HB 304 on Friday, April 12.

House Bill 304, introduced by state Representative Krayton Kerns (R-58), would have eliminated the need for a concealed weapon permit within city limits, which is already the law outside city limits.  HB 304 would apply to individuals who are “eligble to possess a handgun under state or federal law.”  HB 304 passed in the state House by a 58 to 41 vote on February 22 and passed in the state Senate by a 30 to 19 vote on March 23.

There are two other pro-gun bills now pending action by Governor Bullock:

House Bill 446, sponsored by state Representative Nicholas Schwaderer (R-14), deletes “discharge of firearms” from the disorderly conduct statute.  This legislation passed in the state House by a 61 to 38 vote on February 21 and passed in the state Senate by a 30 to 20 vote on April 8.

House Bill 459, sponsored by Representative Kerns, provides that health care facilities and providers may not inquire about a person’s firearm ownership as a condition of receiving medical treatment nor refuse treatment because a person refuses to answer questions about firearms ownership.  HB 459 passed in the state House by a 61 to 38 vote on February 27, passed in the state Senate by a 42 to 8 vote on March 25 and was concurred by the state House by a 62-37 vote on April 9.

Please call AND e-mail Governor Steve Bullock today and respectfully urge him to sign House Bills 446 and 459 into law.
