California: Concealed Carry Permit Holder Confidentiality Legislation to be Heard Next Tuesday

Thursday, April 18, 2013

Contact members of the Assembly Judiciary Committee TODAY

Next Tuesday, April 23, the Assembly Judiciary Committee is scheduled to hear an important pro-gun bill.  Assembly Bill 134 blocks the release of personal information of concealed carry permit holders through the public records act request law.

This legislation is essential for the protection of law-abiding gun owners in the Golden State.  Recently, there have been several instances of anti-gun media outlets publishing the names and addresses of concealed carry weapons (CCW) permit holders which jeopardizes the safety and violates the privacy of law-abiding citizens.  Such publications place lawful CCW holders at risk to criminals who may target their home to steal firearms.  AB 134 would ensure that this never happens in California.  An individual exercising his or her Second Amendment rights should not be put at risk of being a victim of gun theft by the public exposure of their private information, and enactment of this concealed carry permit holders protection legislation will prevent such abuse.  The privacy of carry permit holders in 38 states is now protected by laws similar to AB 134.

Not only is AB 134 strongly supported by the NRA and the California Rifle and Pistol Association (CRPA), it is also supported by the California State Sheriffs Association.

Members of the Assembly Judiciary Committee MUST hear from you TODAY urging them to SUPPORT AB 134.  Committee member contact information is provided below.

Don't forget to forward this alert to your family, friends and fellow gun owners throughout California and urge them to do the same.  We need all California gun owners and Second Amendment supporters to continually call AND e-mail their state legislators.  The California Legislature needs to know that this egregious attack against law-abiding citizens needs to stop.

The NRA recognizes that California is one of the most active Second Amendment "battleground states," so for decades NRA has devoted substantial resources to fighting for the right to keep and bear arms for Californians. The NRA has full-time legislative advocates in its Sacramento office fighting ill-conceived gun ban proposals. NRA coordinates a statewide campaign to fight ill-conceived local gun bans and regulations. And NRA has been litigating cases in California courts to promote the right to self-defense and the Second Amendment for many years. NRA’s California legal team continues to work pro-actively to strike down ill-conceived gun control laws and ordinances, and to protect the Second Amendment rights of California firearms owners.
