Maryland: Amendments to be Considered for Senate Bill 281

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

Despite overwhelming opposition to his extreme gun control scheme contained in Senate Bill 281, Governor Martin O’Malley is desperately using arm-twisting politics and deceptive procedural maneuvers to try and ram through this deeply flawed legislation.  Multiple amendments to Senate Bill 281 are to be considered SOON and could be supported by your state Delegate(s).  It is important that you contact your state Delegate(s) TODAY and urge them to say NO to O’Malley’s political bullying and OPPOSE Senate Bill 281 and all anti-gun amendments.

Some of the amendments offered to SB 281 are positive and would limit the number of cosmetic features that would qualify a commonly owned semi-automatic firearm as an illegal firearm under the concocted term “assault weapon,” eliminate registration of firearms and reduce the training requirements to purchase a handgun in Maryland.  However, these pro-gun amendments are being held up by O'Malley's deceptive tactics and political bullying.  For his own political purposes, O’Malley is actively seeking to force amendments that would impose an outright BAN on those same semi-automatic firearms that the state legislature is ready to recognize as valuable self-defense tools.

Don't let O’Malley and anti-gun legislators hold these positive amendments hostage in favor of a comprehensive ban on commonly owned semi-automatic firearms.  These amendments are to be considered in the House Health and Governmental Operations Committee and the House Judiciary Committee soon.  It is critical that you contact members of these committees immediately and strongly urge them to support positive amendments that limit the scope of this bill and to oppose any changes that would ban firearms from law-abiding citizens.

Weblinks for contact information for House committee members are provided below:

House Judiciary Committee can be found here.

House Health and Government Operations Committee can be found here.

This could be your last chance to stop SB 281.  Call your state Delegate(s) NOW.  Urge them to oppose Senate Bill 281, its companion House Bill 294, and any anti-gun amendments or legislation that hinders a law-abiding citizen’s right to self-defense.  Contact information can be found here.

Please also contact Governor O’Malley and tell him that you oppose his attacks on your rights!  He can be e-mailed using the online form here and called at (800) 811-8336 and (410) 974-3901.
