Arizona: Two Pro-Gun Reform Bills Pass Senate Committee

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

Today, the Arizona Senate Public Safety Committee approved two NRA-backed pro-gun reforms.  House Bill 2455, which received a "Do Pass" recommendation with a 4 -1 vote, would prohibit the destruction of seized or surrendered firearms.  House Bill 2326, recommended "Do Pass" with a 5-1 vote, would protect gun owner privacy.  Please contact members of the Senate Public Safety Committee and thank them for their support.  Since both HB 2455 and HB 2326 will now be sent to the Senate floor for consideration, please contact your state Senator today and urge him or her to vote for these important measures

House Bill 2455, introduced by state Representative Brenda Barton (R-6), would require any firearms forfeited to or confiscated by a law enforcement agency to be sold to a Federal Firearms License (FFL) holder in exchange for money, new equipment or ammunition.  As a result, collected firearms would maintain their value and their sale to the public would help recover public funds as budgets are strained.

House Bill 2326, sponsored by state Representative Eddie Farnsworth (R-12), would provide meaningful protections for gun owners.  This measure restricts the ability of any political subdivision from requiring or retaining a record in any form, whether permanent or temporary, including a list, log or database, of any identifying information of a person who owns, possesses, purchases, sells or transfers a firearm.  In other parts of the country, anti-gun media outlets abused their privileges under the Freedom of Information Act and have jeopardized the safety of law-abiding citizens by publishing the names and addresses of registered gun owners.  Contrary to their claims, these media elites have not increased public safety and have instead simply provided a map for criminals to use for their next burglary and firearm theft.  HB 2326 would prevent this from happening in Arizona.

Contact your state Senator and respectfully urge him or her to support House Bills 2455 and 2326.  Contact information can be found here Thank you to all NRA members who have contacted their state legislators in support of these bills.  Also, please remember to thank members of the Senate Public Safety Committee who voted in favor of these important pro-gun reforms.  Contact information for members of the Senate Public Safety Committee can be found here.

Your NRA-ILA will continue to keep you updated on these bills and other firearm-related legislation as the session continues.
