Wyoming: Governor Signs Bill Repealing State Prohibition of Hunting With Suppressors

Tuesday, February 19, 2013

Wyoming Governor Matt Mead (R) signed into law Senate File 132, legislation introduced by Senator Ogden Driskill (R-01) that allows the use of suppressors for hunting all game in the Cowboy State starting on July 1, 2013.  Thanks to passionate input from gun owners and sportsmen, the Wyoming House of Representatives voted 44 to 14 in favor of this pro-hunting reform while the state Senate voted 23 to 7.

Thank you to Governor Mead and Wyoming legislators who voted for this reform, as well as NRA members who contacted their legislators in support of this legislation.

Currently, more than half of the states across the country allow hunters to use suppressors.  Recently Arizona, Oklahoma and Texas adopted new rules allowing for the use of suppressors when hunting game.  It’s time that hunters in Wyoming are able to enjoy the same opportunities available to sportsmen in more than half of the country.  Noise complaints are being used more frequently as an excuse to close shooting ranges, informal shooting areas and hunting lands throughout the country.  Increased use of suppressors will help to eliminate many of these complaints and protect hunting and shooting areas well into the future.  For more information on firearms and suppressors, click here.

Another pro-gun bill now needs your help.  House Bill 103, introduced by state Representative Allen Jaggi (R-19), would strengthen the state’s authority over firearm laws while prohibiting counties from enacting their own ordinances in clear violation of the current state firearms preemption statute.  This bill is scheduled for a hearing tomorrow in the Senate Judiciary Committee.  Please contact members of this Committee and politely urge them to support this important pro-gun reform.
