New Jersey: Governor Christie Announces Public Meetings for the NJ SAFE TASK FORCE

Friday, February 1, 2013

Gun Owners Should Attend and Make Their Voices Heard

For three days next week, Governor Chris Christie’s newly-created task force will hold public hearings in Camden, Lincroft and Newark to discuss crime and violence issues in New Jersey.  Governor Christie’s office issued a media advisory this week with details about the hearings, including dates and locations.  NRA members are encouraged to attend and respectfully voice their opinions.  It is important that this discussion focus on real problems like mental health and the societal issues that lead to violence.

New Jersey has some of the toughest gun control laws in the country.  Gun owners should not be burdened with more laws that simply punish law-abiding citizens for the criminal acts of violent and insane criminals.  Your constitutional rights are in jeopardy, and it is essential that state policymakers receive valued input from honest, law-abiding gun owners.  Anti-gun lawmakers in Trenton have already introduced over forty anti-gun bills this year!  These knee-jerk proposals will do nothing to address crime, and adding more gun laws to the books is a dangerous mistake.  New Jersey residents have a constitutional right to bear arms and provide for their self-defense.  The drastic anti-gun legislative offerings being discussed at the State House will do nothing but further erode the rights of the citizens of New Jersey.  Please attend these public hearings and help defend our constitutional rights in the Garden State.  There will be an opportunity for public comment on these issues, limited to three minutes per person.  If you cannot attend one of the meetings, please e-mail your comments to [email protected].

Important!  Gun control legislation is moving quickly behind the scenes.  Our NRA-ILA liaison was in Trenton this week working against these anti-gun proposals and has learned that action on some of these bills could begin as early as next week.  Please continue to follow NRA-ILA Legislative Alerts here to find out which bills will be heard and when.  We will update members as soon as bills are posted for consideration.
