California: One Final Opportunity to STOP the Pleasant Hill City Council from Supporting Stringent Local Requirements on Firearm Sales

Thursday, November 7, 2013

On Monday, November 5, the Pleasant Hill City Council voted 3 to 2, on second reading, to approve a set of local laws governing the sale of firearms.  The citizens of Pleasant Hill have one more chance to call AND e-mail members of the city council urging them to OPPOSE these unnecessary and burdensome local requirements.  The final vote on this onerous ordinance will take place on Monday, November 18.

Councilmen Ken Carlson and Jack Weir stood up for gun owners and voted against these onerous requirements, while Mayor Michael Harris and Councilmen David Durant and Tim Flaherty supported it.

When you call AND e-mail, please thank Councilmen Carlson and Weir for supporting law-abiding gun owners and ask them to continue their opposition to this anti-gun ordinance.

When you call AND e-mail Mayor Harris, and Councilmen Durant and Flaherty respectfully, urge them to OPPOSE these unnecessary requirements and remind them that this onerous ordinance would do nothing to reduce violent crime in Pleasant Hill.  Criminals intent on misusing firearms and committing crimes will find a way to obtain firearms – usually through theft or illegal transfers.  Firearms dealers are not the problem.  Indeed, Pleasant Hill Police Chief Moore has stated publicly that “his department has not had any problems with the four firearms dealers in Pleasant Hill.”  This law’s effect would instead make it extremely costly (if not impossible) for firearm businesses to obtain the required local permit, driving legitimate businesses out of Pleasant Hill altogether and, ultimately, burdening your right to obtain a firearm.

For a detailed explanation of what this ordinance will do if passed, please click here.

Please call AND e-mail City Council members NOW urging them to OPPOSE this unnecessary anti-gun ordinance!  The City Council can be reached at (925) 671-5267 and http://www.ci.pleasant-hill.ca.us/forms.aspx?FID=74.

Also express your opposition by attending and standing in solidarity with other gun rights supporters at the November 18 city council meeting.  This meeting begins promptly at 7:30 pm in the Council Chambers of the Pleasant Hill City Hall located at 100 Gregory Lane in Pleasant Hill.
