California: Bloomberg Bringing His Anti-Gun Agenda to Los Altos and Mountain View

Tuesday, November 19, 2013

New York billionaire Michael Bloomberg has begun pushing his radical anti-gun agenda in cities throughout California.  His tactic is to use his financial and legal resources to support anti-gun voter initiatives and ballot measures in local elections.  Bloomberg’s social engineering agenda is now focused on Los Altos and Mountain View.

Recently, Bloomberg solicited the help of Sunnyvale Mayor Tony Spitaleri through Bloomberg’s gun ban advocacy group, “Mayors Against Illegal Guns” (MAIG).  Bloomberg himself donated money to the proponents of Sunnyvale Measure C, a batch of misguided gun control laws that jeopardize the rights of gun owners living in and passing through Sunnyvale.  On November 5, Sunnyvale voters approved Measure C, which will: (1) ban the possession of “large capacity magazines,” defined as ammunition feeding devices capable of holding more than ten rounds; (2) mandate that gun owners report the loss or theft of a firearm within 48 hours of when they should “reasonably” have known it was missing; (3) require gun owners to keep firearms locked up when not in the owner’s immediate possession; and (4) require retailers to maintain detailed records of all ammunition sales for two years.

Measure C was sold as a package of “gun safety” ordinances to make the citizens of Sunnyvale feel safer.  But the Measure C ordinances, and other laws like them, do nothing to reduce violent crime.  These laws do, however, erode the inherent right to self-defense and limit access to legal firearms and ammunition – which is Bloomberg’s intention.  This same package is now being pushed in other cities.

Sunnyvale’s Mayor claims that citizens from several neighboring cities, including Los Altos and Mountain View, have already reached out to him, seeking to push the same or similar measures in those cities.  And former state Assemblywoman Sally Lieber claims the campaign for gun control in Mountain View has already begun.

The campaign to defeat these ill-conceived measures must start now!  We need your help to OPPOSE these laws before they qualify for the ballot.  You can educate others about this dangerous new strategy to undermine the right to keep and bear arms.  Talk to your family, friends and neighbors and urge them not to sign any petition seeking to put gun control measures to a public vote.  Keep your eyes open and alert the NRA at state&[email protected] if you learn of similar efforts taking place in your city.

You can also support the fight against local anti-gun ballot measures and legislation by donating to the NRA Legal Action Project.
