California: YOU May be Affected if Sunnyvale Passes Anti-Gun Measure C on the November 5 Ballot

Monday, October 21, 2013

If you live in Sunnyvale you must read this alert!  But don’t think you won’t be affected if you don’t live in Sunnyvale, because if you are driving through or visiting family, friends, fellow gun owners, sportsmen or Second Amendment supporters this will affect you while you are in Sunnyvale.  Also, if you have any family, friends, fellow gun owners, sportsmen and Second Amendment supporters living in Sunnyvale it is critical that you forward this alert to them.  Urge them to VOTE NO on anti-gun Measure C on their ballot!

Anti-gun Sunnyvale City Council members placed “Measure C” on the ballot for the November 5 election.  Two of the four provisions in Measure C are already codified in state law and the other two were VETOED by Governor Jerry Brown this year.

If passed, Measure C would do the following:

  • Ban possession of ammunition magazines that hold more ten rounds and not allow the grandfathering of currently owned ammunition magazines.  California already bans the sale of ammunition magazines that hold more than ten rounds BUT you are now grandfathered if you owned those ammunition magazines prior to 2000 – unless Measure C passes.  State legislation was introduced this year for this requirement and it failed to pass.  The California Sheriffs’ Association is also opposed to this requirement.
  • Require the registration of all ammunition purchases including a thumbprint!  State legislation was introduced this year for this requirement and it failed pass.  The Governor also vetoed similar legislation in 2012 and litigation is currently pending on this issue.
  • Require the so-called “safe storage” of all of your firearms, meaning they must be locked-up at all times when not in use.  California already has some of the strictest firearm storage laws.
  • Require the reporting of lost and stolen firearms and would penalize gun owners for failing to report their lost or stolen gun within 48 hours.  This state requirement was vetoed by Governor Brown this year and in 2012.  To view Governor Brown’s 2013 veto letter, please click here.

Measure C is being disguised as a gun safety ordinance to make the citizens of Sunnyvale feel safer but nothing in Measure C will reduce California and Sunnyvale’s crime rate.  Criminals are not thwarted by gun control laws.  Those intent on misusing firearms and committing crimes, also known as violent criminals, obtain firearms through theft or illegal transfers.  Measure C will ONLY affect and punish law-abiding citizens.  VOTE NO on MEASURE C on November 5!
