Louisiana State Senate Pre-Files Important Right-to-Carry Reform Legislation!

Friday, March 21, 2008

Please Make Your Voice Heard Today!

This Friday, March 21, is the deadline for pre-filing bills for the 2008 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature, which convenes on Monday, March 31.  Several NRA-backed measures have been introduced so far in the Louisiana State Senate, but two key bills will need your support!

Senate Bill 51, sponsored by State Senator Joe McPherson (D-29), would affirm the rights of law-abiding citizens to transport and store firearms in their private motor vehicles.  It would clarify that patrons and employees may keep those firearms in their locked cars and trucks when parked in any lot, garage, or other designated parking area controlled by a business or a public or private employer.  The bill has been referred to the Senate Transportation, Highways & Public Works Committee.  Please contact the committee members below and urge them to support SB 51.  Please also contact your State Senator and urge him or her to sign on as a co-author to SB 51.

Senate Bill 142, introduced by State Senator Steve Scalise (R-9), would ensure that information regarding concealed handgun license applicants and license holders remain confidential, except for law enforcement purposes.  The bill has been referred to the Senate Judiciary B committee.  Please contact the committee members below, as well as your State Senator, and urge them to support SB 142.

A number of anti-gun measures have been pre-filed in the Louisiana House as well.  We will keep you updated with a complete list next week, as more may be introduced before Friday’s pre-filing deadline passes.

Please remember to contact your State Senator and urge him or her to support these to important Right-to-Carry measures. To find contact information for your State Senator please click here.
