The "Get the Lead Out of Vermont" report released last month by the Vermont Attorney General and State Department of Health has spawned two far-reaching bills that could allow Vermont municipalities and the Attorney General to outlaw shooting ranges and even the mere possession of lead ammunition.
New legislation, S. 152, sponsored by State Senator "Ginny" Lyons (D-Chittenden) and H. 352, sponsored by State Representative Helen Head (D-Chittenden 3-10) would allow the Vermont Attorney General to investigate and sue shooting ranges. In addition, S. 152 and H. 352 give private parties, such as landowners near ranges, the same rights to sue. These bills endanger the future of shooting and hunting in Vermont. This legislation is a direct assault on manufacturers and retailers of ammunition and will have a drastic impact on Vermont hunters, shooters and gun owners.
The State House of Representatives will hold a special hearing on H352 on Tuesday evening, March 13 at 7:30 PM in the House Chamber in the State Capitol Building. It is very important that sportsmen and women attend this hearing to oppose this bill.
