Senator Todd Sieben has introduced legislation (SB 236) that will guarantee that at least ten percent of the open space land bought by the state of Illinois will be open to hunting. The current Open Space Land Acquisition act does not require that any of the land acquired be open to hunting. As urban sprawl continues to eat into traditional hunting areas SB 236 is a much needed guarantee that when land is set aside as open space, some of it is opened to hunting. The bill has been referred to the Senate Agriculture and Conservation Committee.
