Voter Registration and Eligibility
Voter registration forms must be postmarked at least 30 days before an election in order to vote in that election. You may register in person at a satellite registration site or at the County Clerk's Office on the 15th day before the election.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • To register to vote in the State of Utah, an individual must meet the following qualifications:
  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Be a resident of Utah for at least the 30 days immediately before the election
  • Be at least 18 years old on the day of the election

OBTAINING A VOTER REGISTRATION FORM

Register in person or obtain a mail-in registration form at your County Clerk's Office (contact information).

Registration forms are also available at State Agency Offices, including the Drivers License Division, Division of Workforce Services, Utah State Department of Health, Women, Infant and Children (WIC) Offices, the Division of Services for People with Disabilities, the Department of Rehabilitation, and public colleges and universities.

From 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and Monday, the eighth and eleventh days before a regular primary or general election, voter registration is available at satellite locations throughout the state. Location listings are available through your County Clerk's Office.

Who Can Absentee Vote in Utah?

Any person who is registered to vote may vote by absentee ballot.

How Can I Acquire an Absentee Ballot?

For regular general and primary elections (held in even-numbered years), an application must be filed by mail or in person in the office of the voter's county clerk (contact information).

For municipal and municipal primary elections (held in odd-numbered years), an application should be filed by mail or in person in the office of the voter's city clerk or recorder (contact information).

For regular absentee voting, the ballot application must be received no later than the Friday before the election. For overseas voters the clerk should receive the application no later than 20 days before the election.

How do I Return the Absentee Ballot and What is the Deadline?

Individual voting an absentee ballot in the office of their clerk or recorder must apply for and cast the ballot no later than the day before the election.

The ballot is only valid if it is clearly postmarked before (not on) Election Day, and received in the County Clerk's Office before noon on the day of the official canvass.
