Virginia: Anti-Gun Bills Scheduled for Public Hearing Tomorrow

Tomorrow, Thursday, January 25th, the House Public Safety Subcommittee on Firearms, will hold a public hearing on fourteen firearm related bills. A majority of the bills being considered seek to limit your Second Amendment Rights in the Commonwealth. With an anti-gun majority on the committee, it's critical that gun owners and Second Amendment supporters contact the committee and urge their opposition to the anti-gun bills and support the pro-gun bills.

Anti-Gun Bills Being Considered:

House Bill 1174, introduced by Del. Mark Sickles, discriminates against young adults by prohibiting the purchase of certain firearms to those over 21 years of age. Similar laws have been met with intense scrutiny in legal challenges across the country.

House Bill 23, introduced by Del. Amy Laufer, and House Bill 861, introduced by Del. Phil Hernandez, follow the lead of New York and California in an effort to limit lawful concealed carry in a manner that is so confusing and complex that otherwise law-abiding citizens could run afoul to this misplaced proposal. The legislation includes areas that have not historically been considered "sensitive” and offers no means to provide protocols to keep criminals and those intent on doing harm from crossing these arbitrary lines.

House Bill 585, introduced by Del. Candi Mundon King, implements zoning restrictions for home-based licensed firearm dealers in such a fashion that it would be nearly impossible for them to continue operations given the broad radius. Proponents have offered no evidence that these lawful small businesses pose a threat, as the vast majority of crime firearms are secured through illicit means. Licensed firearms are subject to the same laws and regulations, regardless of where business is conducted.

House Bill 12, introduced by Del. Michael Jones, House Bill 158, introduced by Del. Adele McClure, House Bill 351, introduced by Del. Nadarius Clark, and House Bill 183, introduced by Del. Marcus Simon, are similar proposals, mandating firearm locking devices and storage requirements anytime a firearm is transferred from an FFL.

Again, please click the take action button and urge committee members to OPPOSE anti-gun bills!
