Despite the fact that 42 other states allow their residents to purchase rifles and shotguns in any state, provided that the purchase or transfer of the long gun complies with state and federal law, Wisconsin currently only allows their residents to purchase long guns in bordering or contiguous states. However, legislation has been introduced to fix this arbitrary restriction. Senate Bill 285, sponsored by state Senator Tom Tiffany (R-12) and Representative John Spiros (R-86), would allow residents of the Badger State to purchase a long gun in any state.
SB 285 has been assigned to the Committee on Transportation, Public Safety, and Veterans and Military Affairs, and is currently pending a committee hearing. However, your state legislators need to start hearing from you TODAY that you support the expansion of interstate long gun sales.
