In the important 2008 District of Columbia v. Heller case, four members of the court actually said that the Second Amendment recognizes a right to keep and bear arms but only as part of an organized state militia, such as the National Guard. Five justices said that people have an individual right to keep and bear arms, striking down the D.C. law that outlawed handgun ownership even in the home. This draconian D.C. law was similar to one in Chicago, Obama's adopted hometown. Obama supported that law, which the Supreme Court, in McDonald v. Chicago, struck down as well. Case closed? Hardly. If voters give Obama four more years, he will likely have two or more Supreme Court vacancies. One or two more left wing justices, like Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor, can flip a 5 4 Heller case the other way.
