Florida Alert! Is Charles McBurney Calling in Favors?

DATE: May 30, 2016
TO: USF & NRA Members and Friends
FROM: Marion P. Hammer
  USF Executive Director
  NRA Past President

Charles McBurney has now sent out an email asking for help to become a judge.  We know it went to attorneys and we suspect he is trying to call in favors from prosecutors.

He is asking people to email, call or write Governor Scott in support of his candidacy.  Of course, his email didn't mention the conduct that makes him unfit to serve on the bench. (a copy of the email is attached below)

We need to let Governor Scott know that Charles McBurney is UNFIT to be a judge.

On May 21, 2016 we reported the arrogant conduct of Charles McBurney and explained why he is unfit to serve on the bench of any Court.

As Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Charles McBurney arrogantly put his ambition to become a judge ahead of your constitutional right of self-defense and your basic right to the presumption of innocence.

In order to gain favor with prosecutors, he refused to hold a hearing on the "Burden of Proof" bill, SB-344 by Sen. Rob Bradley, which restores the presumption of innocence in self-defense cases.

The bottom line is that McBurney, a former prosecutor himself, wants prosecutors to help him become a judge so he engaged in political pandering to prosecutors.  McBurney traded your rights for personal gain.

He even once got a Highway Patrol Trooper fired for writing him a ticket when he was stopped for speeding.

Charles McBurney applied for and has already been interviewed for a judgeship in the 4th Judicial Circuit.

Please email Governor Scott RIGHT AWAY and ask him NOT TO APPOINT Charles McBurney as a judge.

In the subject line put: CHARLES MCBURNEY IS UNFIT TO BE A JUDGE

CHARLES W. MCBURNEY - YOUR IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE IS REQUESTED

Dear Friend:

As you know, term limits prevent me from running for re-election as your State Representative.

What you may not know is that there is now a vacancy on the Circuit Court here in the 4th Judicial Circuit (Duval, Nassau and Clay Co.) due to the appointment of Judge Harvey Jay to the First District Court of Appeals in Tallahassee.

Many of my friends and supporters - including current members of the Judiciary as well as colleagues in Florida House of Representatives - encouraged me to apply for this vacancy.

I formally applied for the position in April and was approved by the Judicial Nominating Committee.  Wednesday of this week, as a finalist for the position, I was interviewed by members of Governor Rick Scott's administration who will assist him in making the final selection.

I'm writing today to ask you to email, call or snail mail the Governor's office and informing him of how we are acquainted (JC, legal, civic, religious, personal).  I would also encourage you to share why you feel I am the most qualified candidate.

Please contact the Governor's Office as soon as possible and let them know that you support my appointment to the 4th Judicial Circuit Court.

P.S. - Thank you for your friendship.  With your help in the form of letters, emails and calls to the Governor, I hope to continue my service to the citizens of Northeast Florida in this new and exciting capacity
