Fairfax, Va.— The Executive Director of the National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action, Chris W. Cox, today released the following statement regarding Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine’s announcement that Ohioans with valid concealed handgun licenses will no longer have to go through a background check every time they purchase a firearm.
“This is a great day for law-abiding gun owners in Ohio. Thanks to Governor Kasich, Attorney General DeWine, and pro-freedom leaders in the 130th Ohio General Assembly , concealed carry license holders in good standing will no longer be forced to cut through the same red tape every time they exercise a constitutional right.”
Today's announcement was made possible by Governor Kasich signing NRA-backed House Bill 234 into law in 2014, which required all concealed carry licenses to be run through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). Ohio is now the 25th state to receive NICS exemptions for concealed handgun license holders.
