California: Keep Up the Pressure in Sacramento Ammunition Registration Bill and Several Anti-Gun Bills Still in Moving

Monday, June 23, 2014

Contact your state legislator IMMEDIATELY

The state Assembly did not take up anti-gun Senate Bill 53 last week, so it is still awaiting its final vote.  The next chance for SB 53 to be considered on the Assembly floor is TODAY, June 23.   It’s CRITICAL that you contact your state Assemblyman TODAY and urge him or her to OPPOSE this egregious legislation.  Contact information for your Assemblyman can be found here.  For talking points on SB 53, please click here.

SB 53 is not the only anti-gun legislation moving through the California Legislature.  Several anti-gun bills are scheduled to be heard in state Senate and Assembly committees this week.  It is imperative that you call AND e-mail members of these committees and urge them to OPPOSE the following bills.

*********************************

TODAY, June 23, AB 1964 is scheduled to be heard in the Senate Appropriations Committee.  Contact information for this committee can be found here

***We ask that you call members of this committee because legislators are “screening” their e-mails.  In general, calling is the most effective way to reach members of the California Legislature.***

Assembly Bill 1964 would remove existing exemptions for all single-shot pistols, other than those with a break top or bolt action, from California’s roster of “not safe” handguns.

*********************************

TOMORROW, June 24, the following anti-gun bills will be heard in the Assembly Public Safety Committee.  Please call AND e-mail members of this committee urging them to OPPOSE these anti-gun bills.  Their contact information is provided below.

Senate Bill 199 would BAN the sale/transfer of used and antique BB devices and imitation firearms that are not colored, as specified.  Congress preempted state law and stated that federal statute would supersede any state or local laws requiring “markings or identification inconsistent with provisions” of the federal statute. 15 U.S.C. §5001(g).  In addition, federal statute specifically prohibits a state from banning the sale of traditional air guns.  To view our letter of opposition, please click here.

Senate Bill 808 would impose heavy restrictions and costly fees on the ability to make, or even assemble a personal firearm and require that all firearms are registered. To view our letter of opposition, please click here.

*********************************

Also, TOMORROW, June 24, the following anti-gun bills will be heard in the Senate Public Safety Committee.  Please call AND e-mail members of this committee urging them to OPPOSE these anti-gun bills.  Their contact information is provided below.

Assembly Bill 1609 would impose unnecessary limitations on the transfer of firearms by law-abiding citizens, requiring that all transfers be completed through a California gun dealer, regardless of the circumstances.  For talking points on AB 1609, please click here.  To view our letter of opposition, please click here.

Assembly Bill 1014 would allow any person to seek a “gun violence restraining order” against another person.  A court would be permitted to issue the order based only on a person’s affidavit that “the named person poses a significant risk of personal injury to himself or herself or others by possessing firearms.”  If the court is satisfied that the affidavit is correct, then the court could issue an order prohibiting the named person from possessing firearms.  This extremely dangerous bill would essentially allow any person to create a firearms prohibition on any other person.  A committee hearing date has not been scheduled at this time.  To view our letter of opposition, please click here.

*********************************

Lastly, TOMORROW, June 24, AB 2310 is scheduled to be heard in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Assembly Bill 2310 would reenact provisions authorizing a city prosecutor or city attorney in specified counties to file an action for unlawful detainer to abate a nuisance caused by any illegal conduct involving firearms or ammunition.   To view our letter of opposition, please click here.  Contact information can be found here.

For talking points on AB 2310, please click here.

Don’t forget to forward this critical alert to your family, friends and fellow gun owners and sportsmen in California urging them to call their state Assemblyman also.  California needs everyone to help save its Second Amendment rights.
