On May 28, 2014, Mr. Ross Loder, (515‐725‐6233) Iowa Department of Public Safety, advised the Department of Public Safety issues retired IDs and qualifies state police retirees. For non‐ Iowa State Police, the retiree must be issued an ID from the agency they retired from and must be qualified by an Iowa Law Enforcement Academy approved police firearms instructor. Any Iowa Law Enforcement Academy approved police firearms instructor can qualify retired law enforcement officers. The Iowa Law Enforcement Academy additionally conducts open range dates for retired LEOSA qualification. Check the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy website for range dates.
