A would-be robber was stopped with a shot to the head by a good guy with a gun — and in this case, the good guy with the gun was a Georgia pastor. What happened? According to WXIA-TV, a local pastor shot a 19-year-old man who was breaking into the pastor’s home — which he shares with his wife and three children — in the early hours of Thursday morning. By the time officers arrived on the scene, the 19-year-old suspect — identified by police as Donavan Simmons — was down with a gunshot wound to the head. According to police, Simmons reportedly attempted to gain entry to the home through the basement when the pastor — identified by the Daily Tribune News as Keith Beck — shot in the suspect’s general direction, hitting him in the head. Simmons was transported to a hospital where he underwent surgery for his injury. He was later released from the hospital. “As far as we know there’s only one person involved,” Sgt. Marianne Kelley of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said of the incident. “The family did feel like they heard somebody else speaking in the basement, so that’s why the deputies cleared it to make sure there was nobody else inside. They did not locate anybody else.” In addition to being charged with burglary, Simmons is also facing charges of terroristic threats and drug possession. According to the Cherokee Tribune & Ledger News, Beck is not facing any charges in the alleged shooting of Simmons.
