Santa Rosa County deputies responded to a dispatch call in Milton where they discovered one man unresponsive after allegedly being shot, according to a press release from the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office. The Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center received a 911 call just after 12:40 a.m. early Saturday morning from the 5000 block of Bent Tree Road in Milton. The caller said there was an individual screaming for help at the front door of the caller's residence, according to the release. A gunshot was heard during the 911 call and dispatch was told that someone had been shot by a resident. Deputies arrived on the scene shortly after dispatch received the call where they found CPR in progress on an unresponsive adult male. The unidentified male was lying on the front porch next to a bat. The individual was later pronounced deceased by responding EMS staff. Sheriff's Office Major Crimes and crime scene investigators began sorting through evidence at the crime scene. According to the press release, initial indicators are leading investigators to believe this was an incident in which the homeowners' use of force was for the protection of their life and property. At this time, the deceased adult male has not been identified. More information will be released as it becomes available. This case remains an active, open investigation.
