A 20-year-old man from Verona was held at gunpoint by a homeowner in Lee County. Near 11 a.m. on Monday, a resident on Palmetto Road reported he had a person at gunpoint for breaking into his vehicle.
Lee County deputies arrived and found Zack Westbrook face down in the yard of the homeowner, who had Westbrook at gunpoint. After making the arrest, Westbrook is accused of giving deputies false information about his age.
Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson said Westbrook indicated he was 16 years old.
After arriving at the Lee County Sheriff's Department, the investigation determined Westbrook to be 20 years old.
As a result, he has been charged with the burglary of a vehicle and giving false information.
Sheriff Johnson said Westbrook has a prior history of burglary.
Johnson said the homeowner was not injured and "did what he felt he needed to do to protect his property."
